The College is the regulatory body for the medical laboratory profession in Alberta. In this capacity, the College serves the public, patients and its members by regulating and guiding the profession - helping ensure that Alberta medical laboratory professionals provide safe and professional services.
The College regulates and guides the profession by:
- registering and licensing Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs)
- establishing and enforcing practice and ethics standards
- investigating and resolving complaints against registered members
- ensuring Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) maintain knowledge and skills through a mandatory continuing competency program
- advocating for the profession of medical laboratory technology at provincial and national levels
The College is dedicated to "Ensuring Excellence in Medical Laboratory Science."
